Bandwidth Bandito I came across Tyler Jakes on the now defunct thesixtyone website (which interestingly enough led me to bandcamp). The raw energy of his music immediately drew my interest and it has been on my go to list of music to enjoy when I'm out and about. Suck Radio is my favourite track but it's a close call as the whole album is great. Favorite track: Suck Radio.

Lie Awake 03:06
Lie Awake A placid wink of turquoise rouge brought forth consensual ties My glance fell upon her inner thigh She sells the curfew bells, then drives on through the day But that song on the radio still plays Joanie’s with her demons in a consciousness delayed She’s teasing all the stupid girls with promises she made She’s off to her psychiatrist to bandage yesterday When she’s walking through herself I know what she will say I lie awake at night Can you sing me that Latin lullaby? You know the one that makes me cry I like to keep my perversion to myself I’ve only got one minute left, so could you do a little dance and wet your lip? Maybe in awhile that song will leave my head
2.
Spaghetti A Go-Go Silky webs add ambiance Pseudonyms fill vacant slots Scattered voices in my head Know that we’re not dead Steal the prize if you come in last No one cares if your future has past Karma lies underneath your bed Sheep will wait to be led Draping God all around my neck Pray I die at the discothèque If it comes before I wake Pray it’s commercial break
3.
Elevator to the Sun No one was listening to the dirty princess on the throne I was a custodian, she was looking for a chaperone Coal miner on the run, I thought for sure she’d found me out Staring into the sun she said let’s take a different route Dragon fairies at the door Give me a little I want some more Wish on me, oh wish I might Make a wish for me tonight Poison berries in disguise It comes to me as no surprise Tell me I’m the only one I’m on an elevator to the sun Armed with her parasol she wouldn’t hear of culture shock A rumbling from the underground, a floor a second ‘round the clock She don’t believe in fairy tales or anything not easily explained She’ll tell you what tomorrow brings, but can’t remember yesterday
4.
Suck Radio 04:28
Suck Radio Teen queen, so serene What are we doing here? Been down that dusty road Now it’s starting to clear I got no time for pantomime I thought I figured it out That’s O.K., I had my doubts Suck radio in my head Every goddamn day she said When it gets to you just all depends On how much they want to spend Suck radio in my brain Every goddamn night I go insane And if it gets to you it’s all the same Suck radio knows your name Old hag, it’s such a drag Where are we coming from? I had to steal me a frequency so all my friends could come And don’t you tell me it was better back then ‘Cause it was never that good Sometimes I wish I could… I’m a lonely boy Somebody just stole my favorite toy
5.
Only A Dream 04:17
Only A Dream There she stood where the angels lament In a message of love I’d been sent Many stars would pass over the sea By the time she’d come calling on me No one will tell me where my Isabella has gone It’s only a dream Sometimes I hear her whisper, you’d better keep moving on It’s only a dream Never quite like it seems When I awoke from my slumber at last I had hoped all these visions had passed Though sometimes my perceptions aren’t clear I could sense only dreamers were here
6.
If I Ever Make It Home Frothing salmonella on the Adriatic Sea Someone locked the gate to dreamland and threw away the key I swallowed my umbrella, curled up in a Persian rug The rain came down for thirty days so into the earth I dug I never found any rainbows, …no pots of gold Stranded in the station all alone I never reached that destination, I turned to go But I don’t mind if I ever make it home I took the midnight train to Venice, sins of the carnival The gypsies turned on one another to keep their bellies full I bid farewell Prater, the meadows turned to snow Woke up in a warm legume with one place left to go I blew out the candle and forced myself to sleep Others shared the bed I made, daisies lined the street The cake defacing vandal, to the gondolier he spoke I wonder if the birthday girl would ever get the joke
7.
So Long, Serotonin I fell asleep with Candelabra I woke up in the Pharaoh’s tomb Out on the seas I was the sunset Here on the shores I am the moon So long, Serotonin Take your worried mind Now I must leave you for another It wasn’t hard to find I can’t remember how the sun shines From underneath El Rio’s sod Here on the shores the sailors blaspheme Out on the seas they talk with God I must leave you… I must leave you far behind My darling Serotonin, I love you Now get out of my life

Junction 29 03:15
Junction 29 Pam’s got her carryall running through the mini-mall Bob’s working drywall now that he’s AWOL Junior’s playing baseball at the town hall I’m smoking Pall Malls looking for the Great Wall Mary’s in the convent, got to pay rent Get bent, repent on the pavement In the first stall sprayed some Lysol She escaped with a Bible and a U-Haul Get back to the end of the line Junction 29 Cop car double parked, kill the fine Had to see what Wounded Knee was selling to the elderly Old ladies on LSD in double D’s scratching flees Seduce me, please Sign mine can you find the time to spare a dime and drop a line We’ll pantomime We’ll smoke and choke on big cigars We’ll be stars …number one on the pop charts Whole wheat collagen, message for the boss man I’m leaving San Fran, headed for the bandstand Amen, God bless incense and peppermints Go to school, pass the test Now clean up your mess Happy hour Cold shower Devil to the sixth power Old dead president creeping through the Laundromat Drinking cappuccino with a camera around his neck Saying “cheese”, smile please Why don’t you make me?
9.
Mentholated Blues I clean out my mind with a moist towelette Then I smoke a GPC mentholated cigarette I stole some ideas from a third world war But now the police officer’s at my door Vegan at my table trying hard to digest She got a water logged hog in a bullet-proof vest She cried, she cried the whole night long Though she hasn’t yet realized what went wrong I ride my motorcycle down the freeway so fast I got a tattoo on my arm of a love that wouldn’t last Look out, look out, get out of my way ‘Cause I’ve been feeling kind of paranoid all day

Uh Huh Huh 04:05
Uh Huh Huh So there I was in an alligator tie, With a half empty box of super-sized fries Just an anonymous vagabond with nothing to live for …and no place to die I landed at a neo-night club just around the other side That’s where I met this little hippie flower girl …she began to philosophize My scantily clad imagination left me wondering, ”Just what was she talking about all that time?” Nevertheless, I politely indulged her fortune cookie mind She said, “Hey, hey there bartender, bring me another one of those, Bring me another one of those dark blue espressos, ‘cause I’m a punk rock dreadlock lady!” Cement flowed beneath her vinyl skin The V-necked intellects digested politics and told their lies that lie within Diabolical movie reviewers stood motionless in time I would have made a call to my friend Jesus upstairs, but I couldn’t find a dime So my cathartic production left me a little unfulfilled on this particular eve Green fog bounced off tie-dyed mohawks Cuckoo clocks chimed emphatically Across the floor strolled this girl once more From the look in her eye I think she’d seen me before She said, “Hey, what’s the problem over there? I’m just drinking my espresso.”

Bring Me Down Well I’m a pendulum swinger on the midnight train In the codeine garden I’m a child of the rain I’m the voice of another, you don’t have to pretend ‘Cause I ain’t your brother and I ain’t your friend I leave it all up to the judge and jury ‘Cause some get lost and some get found I’m going up top without a worry There ain’t nobody gonna bring me down Well everybody get together, you got to love someone Like birds of a feather flying into the sun That gun wasn’t loaded, I tried to explain It must have just exploded down memory lane Ain’t nobody gonna bring me down

about

I recorded most of Lo-Fi Matter while living in a motel room on the north shore of Lake Superior in a town called Grand Marais, MN. I used a Tascam 4-Track and a Radio Shack mic.
